Lift Announces Technology Project

The third technology project announced by LIFT (Lightweight Innovations for Tomorrow) will focus on titanium, a lightweight metal that has potential for more uses in aerospace designs if new technologies can reduce the cost of designing and testing new parts. Lead partners on the project, GE Aviation and The Ohio State University, will focus first on advancing computer analytics to better understand and predict the performance of titanium alloys. “If we can advance the abilities of our computer models to better predict how a particular design will perform, we can test less. That cuts material and testing costs and the lead time for developing new designs,” said Alan Taub, CTO at LIFT.

Magnegas Fuel To Be Part Of Space Center Project

MagneGas Corp. announced a lead subcontractor for a major Kennedy Space Center build-out project placed its first order for MagneGas2 fuel. The fuel will be used for the metal-cutting portion of the project. Subcontractor S&R Enterprises LLC was first introduced to MagneGas fuel during a demonstration arranged by a MagneGas partner Suwannee Ironworks. After the demonstration, S&R chose to switch to MagneGas2 and requested pricing and training for its personnel and, eventually, its subcontractors. In addition, S&R purchased other welding supplies from the company.

New Ohio Laser Leveling Capability

Ohio Laser has added leveled and stress-free punched lasercut and flame-cut parts to its service offerings. With its new ARKU FlatMaster 55 hydraulic precision leveler, Ohio Laser can flatten sheet metal parts, even high-strength steel parts, for thicknesses ranging from 0.05 mm to 12.0 mm. The leveling system can flatten parts in a matter of minutes, eliminating “potato chipping,” while making subsequent processes faster and more reliable, including laser cutting and robotic and MIG/TIG welding. Ohio Laser now offers this new leveling capability as an independent service.
